When to Prevent Crabgrass After Lawn Renovation?

Here is what i do. I get roundup, kill the crabgrass, plant with seeds, then in November I put fertilizer, I water my lawn by hand for 15 minutes a day, also I have a sprinkler system. When should I put crabgrass prevention on my lawn?
