Mysterious Lawn Circles

Hi CJ--How are you??
I have a question. I maintain a lawn for a client--65,000 square feet. Shoreline CT.
It is absolutely gorgeous. I water early am--fertilize regularly, but not overly. Mow when 3 1/2 -4 inches high to a height of three inches.
The grass has had light green circles in it for a couple of years. They are from 8 inches to three feet around. Light green. They look like healthy grass…but a different variety than what is there. They are a wider blade than the turf type perennial we have. We also slice seed every fall with a park and athletic blend. What are the light green patches and what can I do to get rid of them??
Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy,
I’ve gotta tell you, it doesn’t sound like anything I know of specifically. Everything you describe sounds exactly like Creeping Bentgrass except for the fact that it is wider bladed than the rest of the grass. Bentgrass is typically finer bladed. Are you positive about the blade width analysis?
The other option would be Crabgrass, which is light green, wider bladed and forms patches, but you said that it has been there for a few years. Crabgrass dies in the Fall. Is it possible that these patches have re-grown each Summer?
If you can take a few pictures for me, I’d be happy to give an analysis. Also, I do live in CT. What town are you in? If it’s not too far out of the way, I’d be happy to make a personal appearance & check it out.
Let me know what you think.
